EVALUATION QUESTION 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our media film presents Meabh as a possible witch, in that we leave the audience guessing whether or not Meabh is a witch and what has happened to her. Meabh is clearly a young female that has been discriminated against in society. Females of the same age group may be able to relate to the way Meabh is feeling, as she was clearly an outsider in society and has been branded as 'different' and this has resulted in her being drowned. Isolation is something that thousands of young adults struggle with, and therefore can relate to Meabh's emotions. The audience may also feel sympathy for Meabh, especially when they realise how confused meabh is, being thrown into this time zone with no recollection of what has happened. Meabh is clearly full of fear, and this becomes apparent when she sees the lorry driving across the bridge, as well as the use of camera shots and sound when meabh discovers the home she had grown up in several centuries ago is now in ruins. Meabh is evidently extremely traumatised and this forces a reaction from the audience, as they would pity meabh, a young girl being thrown into the unknown, a feeling which many may relate to.

  1. COSTUME
Meabh wore a plain white dress, one that we hoped looked like a night dress, as though she had been taken suddenly in the night. The thin material and plain design give the impression that Meabh does not come from a wealthy background, as someone who is wealthy would be wearing a dress with a much more intricate design and detailing. In the 1700s, clothing is something that set the wealthy apart from the poor. The wealthy would wear thick fabrics, rich colours and intricate designs, whereas the less wealthy would wear very basic pieces, such as the dress Meabh can be seen wearing in our movie. Since costume is such a large part of our film, our movie may appeal to those who have an interest in the costumes and culture of the 1700s.
